Pucallpa

Meaning of the Name Pucallpa:

The name comes from two Quechua words Puca"(Tierra) and Allpa"(Colorada), it is for it that the name of the City of Pucallpa means Red Earth", name that it subsists until the present time.

Brief Historical Review:

Different native groups as the shipibo-conibo, the asháninkas, the culina and the yaminahua, inhabit the region that today is considered as the department of Ucayali. Due to the difficult access, the climate and the unbroken vegetation, the region was unassailable for the Inca ones and then it constituted a difficult challenge for the Spanish conquerors that looked for of the mythical Golden, evangelizing Franciscans and dominicos and rulers.
